Micah Nye

Ph.D. Student

Hi, I’m Micah! I am a Ph.D. student in Robotics at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University who started in 2026. I previously completed my M.S. in Robotics at CMU RI as an Inaugural Rales Fellow. Prior to joining CMU, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

I am currently interested in terrain-aware dynamics models—exploring how we can embed environment context into learned dynamics models through structured perception representations. Accurate dynamics modeling is crucial for robust control and is also useful for RL, planning, and simulation. I push my algorithms to the limit by deploying on an autonomous full-scale ATV at >10m/s.

In a prior life, I worked on adversarial planning and localization on robots traveling 150mph+ for an autonomous racing team.

In my free time, I am a big cinephile and hiker. I also love collecting physical media (vinyls, movies, video games, and books).
