About
Wei (Aquila) Chuang is a Visitor at the Air Lab in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan.
His research focuses on multi-sensor fusion (LiDAR, IMU, GNSS-RTK), Graph-based SLAM, and robust state estimation for autonomous systems in topographically complex environments. During his master’s studies, he developed graph-based mapping and localization frameworks tailored for autonomous golf carts operating in challenging terrains. Prior to joining CMU, he was a Software Controls Engineer at Syntec Technology, where he worked on industrial robotic arm automation—focusing on vision, path planning, and signal processing—and developed embedded USB camera drivers for arm64-Linux systems. At Air Lab, he continues to advance perception and state estimation for field robotics.
